In the event of cardiac arrest (heart attack first and foremost) the very first minutes are “VITAL”. Without initial intervention by a person (witness), even without specific medical preparation within the first 3/5 minutes, doctors cannot do anything. Hence the famous phrase of cardiologists: “Time is muscle” or “Time is muscle” precisely to underline the Absolute and Essential importance of the “time” factor in these so-called time-dependent pathologies.
Reducing the number of deaths (60,000 per year in Italy) is only possible by spreading the culture of first aid: every citizen can save a life as long as they have taken a simple course to learn how to use a defibrillator. In the event of cardiac arrest (heart attack first and foremost), the only mistake you can make is to do nothing.
The Nicola Costantino Association was created to support the Cardiosecurity project, which aims to transform every citizen into an active protagonist of cardiovascular safety, promoting knowledge and use of defibrillators. Through a widespread network of devices distributed throughout the territory by companies and private individuals, the project aims to save lives and spread a culture of prevention and mutual support.
Life is a Gift, not a simple “available value”.
Let’s preserve it. For Us and for others! It is the most precious asset we have.
The Nicola Costantino Association is an organization founded in memory of Nicola Costantino, father of the cardiologist Dr. Fabio Costantino. The association was born with the aim of honoring Nicola’s memory through initiatives that improve public health, particularly in the field of cardiac emergencies.
Spread the culture of first aid and the use of semi-automatic defibrillators (BLS-D), making society more prepared to deal with cardiac emergencies.
Create an aware and active community, where every citizen can become a protagonist in safeguarding public health.
The national project “Cardiosecurity” was born thanks to the will of cardiologist Fabio Costantino. “Among my goals – he explains – is to spread the culture of first aid and the use of semi-automatic defibrillators, making society more prepared to deal with cardiac emergencies. Create an aware and active community, where every citizen can become a protagonist in safeguarding public health. Medicine is my life and Cardiosecurity encompasses my educational and emotional journey”.
“+form + save” is the slogan that Dr. Costantino created and summarizes the primary objective of the project: to train as many people as possible in the use of the defibrillator, especially young people who represent the “beating” heart of society.

The association behind the project was founded with the aim of honoring the memory of Nicola Costantino through initiatives that improve public health, particularly in the field of cardiac emergencies.
In the event of cardiac arrest, every minute that passes decreases the survival rate by 10%, which in Europe is around 8% and even today the defibrillator (AED) is only used in 28% of cases. In Italy, every day, 180 people have a cardiac arrest, on average 1 every 8 minutes. Unfortunately, even today, at least 50% of patients who have had a heart attack die before reaching the hospital. By 2030, it is estimated that in the world there will be 24 million deaths per year from cardiovascular diseases (today 18 million die per year).
The real goal is to inform and educate!
Create a society in which every citizen is prepared and aware, able to intervene promptly in cardiac emergency situations, thanks to a widespread network of accessible defibrillators and the support of companies and individuals committed to collective well-being.
